Welcome!

All Sunday morning services start at 10:30 a.m. and are followed by a coffee hour.

Sunday January 1, 2012:
No morning worship service.

Sunday January 8, 2012: Fire Ritual - Janine Fabiano

Sunday January 15, 2012: A Stone of Hope - Reverend Maddie Sifantus
The new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington DC lifts a phrase from the famous "I Have a Dream" speech: "out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope." As the Memorial in Washington makes a physical reality of his legacy, we consider the spiritual legacy he gave us. We remember MLK in story, word and song.

Sunday January 22, 2012: To The Point - Reverend Maddie Sifantus
How can we describe what the Unitarian Universalist faith is about in 25 words or less? Do you have a UU Elevator speech? What moves you about this faith? A consideration of Unitarian Universalist values, Principles and Sources in line with four strands: spiritual, ethical, identity and faith development. A good Sunday to bring a friend or neighbor to church who might have an interest in Unitarian Universalism.

Sunday January 29, 2012:Apocalypse or Progress? Indigenous Wisdom and the Crisis of Ecology - Reverend Clyde Grubbs

Each week during the church year, the children and youth share in the beginning of the worship service, which includes a Story for All Ages, and then proceed to the Social Hall for their classes unless an intergenerational service is being held. Nursery care is available for our youngest congregants (age 3 and under) beginning at 10:15. Following our Sunday services, the church hosts a coffee and fellowship hour for all ages.

Ongoing Activities

The Meditation Group meets each Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. in the Social Hall all year round.

The Rise Up Singing Group meets on the 3rd Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in our Social Hall from September to June each year.

group picAbout Us: The Unitarian Universalist Church of Wakefield is a gathering place for some of the most interesting, most alive, most caring people in town. We have no creed and impose no belief test, welcoming people of any theological persuasion, occupation, ethnicity, and lifestyle.

Surveys of our congregation show us to be quite theologically diverse, leaning strongly to neither Humanism nor Christianity, but open to and respectful of a variety of spiritual ideas and interpretations. Many of us are active in civic activities and nonprofit organizations based both in Wakefield and beyond.

* We are also proud to be a Welcoming Congregation. Having fulfilled the requirements of our denomination to be a Welcoming Congregation," the Wakefield UU Church is intentional about celebrating the presence and full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons in all aspects of congregational life.
We also welcome all persons regardless of race, economic status, theological and political perspective, or other distinctions that keep us from embracing our common humanity. We acknowledge that we still have work to do and we welcome your advice.

We are located in downtown Wakefield, a block from Lake Quannapowitt and across the street from the Post Office. First erected in 1839 and modified several times after that, it is the oldest church building in town. It has survived two fires and three lightning strikes. The spire will, however, never be struck by lightning again! As the first step to major and necessary repairs and renovations, we had our spire removed on October 7, 2008. Click HERE for more about this project that will enable us to be better stewards of our beautiful and historic building.

The blue-green graphic in the middle of the banner was originally created by Essential Services, Inc., for the UU Web Template project, funded in part by the Fund for Unitarian Universalism, and is also supported by the Prairie Star District of the Unitarian Universalist Association. The project was managed by Diana Allen at the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, MN.
Photos on the left and right sides of the banner and throughout this website were taken by members of the congregation.
