Social Justice work at the Wakefield UU Church includes the work of The Social Action Committee and the program Acting Locally.
The Social Action Committee
Our Social Action work is an expression of our Unitarian Universalist principles in action. We address social justice issues at local, regional and global levels, raising awareness within the church community by educating, volunteering, helping those in need, and inviting participation of all those who are able.
From social actions, generosity of spirit develops, and a new way of life begins.
Activities of the Social Action Committee include the following:
- We staff My Brother’s Table a soup kitchen in Lynn, every other month.
- Each December, we sponsor at least one (usually 3-4) family’s holiday celebration through the Salvation Army.
- We support the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry and have a special collection each March and April.
- We collaborate with Refugee Immigration Ministries
