Welcome!

Sunday June 13:This will be our final service for the church year, with regular services resuming on Sunday September 12. As always, Closing Sunday will feature our traditional Flower Communion Service, first created by Unitarian minister Norbert Capek in in Czechoslovakia in 1923. Each of us brings a flower to share, and we go home with a different one. We will also be recognizing four new members at this service for all ages.

During the Summer: Most Sundays, church members and friends meet at the Wakefield entrance to Breakheart Reservation for a walk at 9:00 a.m. and/or at Brothers Restaurant at 404 Main Street in Wakefield. All are welcome!

This year, the Religious Education program is focusing on our Christian roots thru our relationship to Christianity both historically and as neighbors; the teachings of the old and new testaments of the bible and our UU purposes and principles, and how both support faith based activism.

During the church year (1st Sunday after Labor Day through the 2nd Sunday in June) our Sunday Service starts at 10:30 a.m. Children and youth share in the beginning of the worship service and then are "sung" to their classes downstairs in our Social Hall. Nursery care is available for our youngest congregants (age 3 and under) beginning at 10:15. Following our Sunday services, the church hosts a coffee and fellowship hour for all ages.

The Rise Up Singing Group meets on the third Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and our Meditation Group meets each Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. Our LGBT group meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.

For more information about Meditation and Singing events, call Rev. Maddie Sifantus at 508-358-7091 or email msifantus@aol.com.

About Us: The Unitarian Universalist Church of Wakefield is a gathering place for some of the most interesting, most alive, most caring people in town. We have no creed and impose no belief test, welcoming people of any theological persuasion, occupation, ethnicity, and lifestyle.

Surveys of our congregation show us to be quite theologically diverse, leaning strongly to neither Humanism nor Christianity, but open to and respectful of a variety of spiritual ideas and interpretations. Many of us are active in civic activities and nonprofit organizations based both in Wakefield and beyond.

* We are also proud to be a Welcoming Congregation. Having fulfilled the requirements of our denomination to be a Welcoming Congregation," the Wakefield UU Church is intentional about celebrating the presence and full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons in all aspects of congregational life.
We also welcome all persons regardless of race, economic status, theological and political perspective, or other distinctions that keep us from embracing our common humanity. We acknowledge that we still have work to do and we welcome your advice.

We are located in downtown Wakefield, a block from Lake Quannapowitt and across the street from the Post Office. First erected in 1839 and modified several times after that, it is the oldest church building in town. It has survived two fires and three lightning strikes. The spire will, however, never be struck by lightning again! As the first step to major and necessary repairs and renovations, we had our spire removed on October 7, 2008. Click HERE for more about this project that will enable us to be better stewards of our beautiful and historic building.

The blue-green graphic in the middle of the banner was originally created by Essential Services, Inc., for the UU Web Template project, funded in part by the Fund for Unitarian Universalism, and is also supported by the Prairie Star District of the Unitarian Universalist Association. The project was managed by Diana Allen at the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, MN.
Photos on the left and right sides of the banner and throughout this website were taken by members of the congregation.
