Standing Room Only 2011-2012 Season announces “Voices of New England”
Click HERE to go to the official SRO page with ticket infomation and more!
The new SRO season features the blending of beautiful voices and our pride in New England. Each concert presents an accomplished ensemble with “New England” in its name and prominent artists from our region. Performances take place at 326 Main Street in Wakefield, Massachusetts.
The Season Premiere on October 15 presents New England Tenors, a 3-voice ensemble that harmonizes the appealing sounds of a Broadway tenor, an Irish tenor and an operatic tenor. Accompanied by piano, violin and percussion, John Middleton, Damien Corcoran and Ray Bauwens perform a wide range of styles, including songs of inspiration, love songs, a West Side Story set and operatic favorites, such as Time to Say Goodbye.
On December 18, “Candlelight Christmas III” again mixes seasonal favorites, both sacred and secular, with some holiday surprises, showcasing Leigh Barrett and Joseph Holmes along with other local vocal stars, and accompanied by the polished sounds of the New England Festival Orchestra. Stay tuned for the announcement of a special guest celebrity.
“Love and Chocolate” on February 14 is an upbeat Valentine presentation of witty and romantic love songs from New England Light Opera. Mark Morgan leads a cast of four singers that includes well-known musical theatre artist Brian De Lorenzo, celebrated jazz vocalist Patrice Williamson, the extraordinary talents of mezzo-soprano Vanessa Schukis and Doug Hammer on the keys. Back by popular demand is the festive champagne and chocolate intermission.
The season culminates April 7 with “New England Brass plays Gershwin” featuring a five-decade tribute to trumpet solos by Jay Daly, a long-time member of the Artie Shaw Band. Gershwin favorites include I’ve Got Rhythm, a Porgy and Bess suite, and a spectacular arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue with acclaimed pianist George Lopez.
For the first time Standing Room Only subscribers are rewarded not only with four first-class concerts for the price of one similar performance in Boston, but now also with a number of special benefits, including reserved seating and private receptions with the artists following the opening and closing concerts. Subscriptions are $85, $75 for seniors 65+ and students.
Please check in with the SRO website at sroconcerts.org for subscription orders and additional information on the upcoming season. Or call 339-203-9366.
